Sorry for the false alarm. After a bit of experiments my bashrc file got corrupted.

it looks like PIConGPU is compiled without png support.
Please try to run `picongpu --help` to check if `--e_png.period` is available.
You need >=pngwriter 5.6.0 . There schould be a message in the configure run if pngwriter is to old.
